Dog Control Orders

Herefordshire Council is proposing new changes to the control of dogs within the Councils open spaces. New Legislation means we can introduce Dog Control Orders under Section 55 of The Clean Neighbourhoods and Environment Act 2005.

We have produced some draft proposals for the new Dog Control Orders (as set out in the Dog Control Orders (Prescribed Offences and Penalties, etc, 2006)) as follows:-

Order 1: All persons in control of a dog to remove the faeces (County Wide)

Order 2: The Keeping of Dogs on Leads in designated areas

Order 3: All persons in control of a dog to put and keep the dog on a lead when directed to do so by an Authorised Officer (County Wide)

Order 4 The Exclusion of Dogs from designated Areas

Herefordshire Council intends to issue fixed penalty notices to enforce the proposed dog control orders. The proposed payment is £80 but will be reduced to £50 if paid within 10 days of the fixed penalty notice being issued.  Failure to pay the fixed penalty notice may result in prosecution with a maximum fine of £1000.
